An activity in a fermentation course, where students practiced being mindful of their sense of smell. The goal was to be prepared to taste wine, beer, or other fermented products and describe what they were sensing
For a course on medicinal plants, the faculty wanted to highlight where there was a great variety of plants, as that is where there is a better chance of finding something medicinally useful. In this case, the map was from a published source, so we included a citation, along with added text to provide context.
From the same course, this handout or takeaway tool combines explanatory text with images customized to align with a style guide.
Note the emphasis on clear labelling and descriptions of an appropriate complexity for the target audience, which was people new to the fermentation process.
This is a more complicated process diagram. The flowchart elements were also used in the accompanying video, brought in piece-wise, and animated.
This ‘Visual Glossary’ is from the first course in a landscape architecture certificate, which was five courses total. The first course focused on plant identification, and the SME actually created the line drawings themselves, then creative team assembled them into a handout that the students would be able to refer back to throughout the entire certificate, and beyond.
